Applicability:

Regular Full-time, Regular Part-time, Seasonal/Temporary, Intermittent, Reserve Police Officers

Police officers and reserves must live within one hour normal drive time of the West Des Moines Law Enforcement Center.

All other employees of the City of West Des Moines are encouraged to live in the City limits to ensure that services to the community can be provided in a timely manner and to encourage involvement in the community we serve.

Living within the City limits is not an absolute condition of employment unless it is specified above or by the department director with the approval of the City Manager or is a provision in a collective bargaining agreement.

All Civil Service employees shall become a resident of the state within two years of such appointment or the date employment begins and shall remain a resident of the state during the remainder of employment.
