Continuous service will cease with an employee’s termination, dismissal, or Retirement. If an employee experiences a separation in employment, and then becomes re-employed by the City, the employee will not receive credit for his or her prior service.
Employees on military leave who return to City employment in compliance with federal and state law will be counted as having had continuous service during their military leave.
Employees on authorized unpaid leave of absence through Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) will be considered as having had continuous service.
Longevity pay is earned and paid annually based on the employee’s full-time years of service at November 30th (prorated at retirement or death annually). It is paid in a lump sum basis on the first paycheck in December. For example, if an employee completes 60 months (5 years) of continuous service on September 1, the employee will receive the first longevity pay for 5 years of service in the amount of $350.
Employees who retire or die during the year will be paid their pro rata share of longevity. Employees who have separated their employment with the City (voluntarily or involuntarily) will not be eligible for longevity pay unless they are actively employed on November 30th of the year in which they are to receive a longevity payment.
