Using the Employee Handbook
The City of West Des Moines is proud to present its Employee Handbook online. The online version includes a table of contents, index, and glossary. You can also randomly search for terms and print topics or forms.
The following table shows several methods you can use to search for information.
In the banner, click this button |
To |
Contents |
Search for topics according to the Table of Contents (TOC). Within the TOC, click a book to read an overview topic and to expand the book to display pages. You click a page to display the corresponding topic. |
Index |
Open the index that contains keywords and subkeywords related to the topics. For example, in the Type in the keyword to find box, type the term Direct Deposits. The system takes you to that term in the index. To open the topic that discusses direct deposits, you can either press ENTER on your keyboard, or move the cursor over the term, and then click the term in the list. If more than one topic addresses the term you entered, the system provides you with the option of selecting a topic. |
Search |
Command a search of the entire handbook for a particular term. In the Type in the word(s) to search for box, type a term, and then press the Go button or ENTER on your keyboard. The system displays a list of topics that include that term. To open a topic, rest your mouse over the topic title, and then click the title. The topic opens in the right pane. |
Glossary |
Find the definition of a particular term. When you click a term in the list, the full definition for that term opens in the lower left pane. If necessary, you can scroll down to read the entire definition. |

In the banner, click the Print button to print the current page. Note: To print a .pdf file, use the Print icon at the top of the .pdf page. |
